Turn the extractor fan on every time you shower or bath, so it clears the steam. Showering and bathing fill the air with moisture. That moisture settles as condensation on the colder parts of the room.
The fan has to work properly and be strong enough to clear the steam. If it is broken, blocked or switched off, moisture builds up. Damp can also come from a leaking waste pipe, an overflowing bath or a burst pipe. Those point to a leak that needs repairing, not more wiping.
Watch for a musty smell, even when you can see no mould. It can mean mould is growing behind a surface. Clean small patches with a mould and mildew product rather than bleach. Wear gloves and a mask while you do it. Larger areas should be dealt with by a qualified professional.
Wiping mould off will not stop it coming back unless the cause of the damp is fixed. Sorting the fan or the leak early saves you cleaning the same patch again and again. If the steam hangs around after a shower or the mould keeps returning, that is the time to call. I fit bathrooms across Caerphilly, and I would rather sort the cause than leave you wiping walls. Have a look at how I plan a bathroom installation at Truscon, then get in touch.
