The stages are the same in most jobs: removal and disposal, first fix plumbing and electrics, wall and floor preparation, tiling or panelling, second fix and fitting, then making good. Each line should say what is included, not just that the stage happens.

Assumptions and exclusions
Every bathroom quote rests on assumptions about what is behind the walls and under the floor. A good one says so. Common examples are that the existing soil connection is reusable, that the floor is sound, that the walls are suitable for tiling without replastering, and that the existing electrical circuit can take the intended fittings.
Exclusions are equally useful. Knowing in advance that replastering, floor levelling or moving a soil pipe would be extra is far better than discovering it on day two. Ask for a rough figure against the likeliest one or two, so a surprise is a decision rather than a shock.

Timing, payment and completion
A quote should give a realistic duration rather than a best case, and should be clear about the waiting stages that cannot be compressed, such as grout and silicone curing before the shower is used.
On payment, what matters is that the schedule is written down and tied to stages rather than dates. On completion, the useful definition is a walk-through where every outlet is run, the bath and shower are tested together, and anything found is dealt with before the team leaves site.

A visit to look at the room and produce a written figure is normally part of the process. What matters more than the word free is whether the figure is based on someone having seen the actual room rather than a description over the phone.
